Thank You For Helping Rotary to Support the Rainbows Hospice
Over the Christmas period Lutterworth Rotary along with Lutterworth Inner Wheel collected £1,004-92 for Rainbows, the hospice for children and young people in the East Midlands.
May we thank those who took part in the 2 day collection at Morrisons. Our thanks to Morrisons for the use of their premises and to their customers who gave so generously to achieve this princely total.

Misterton Plant, Craft and Food Fair.
On Sunday 21st May 2023, the Rotary Club of Lutterworth with the kind permission of Mrs Craven held the 16 th Annual Plant, Craft & Food Fair at Misterton Hall.
The weather forecast
suggested a fine sunny day which in the event proved to be accurate and so stall holders
and visitors a like were treated to a warm and sunny day, perfect for browsing and socialising in the fabulous gardens.
There were approximately 1300 visitors to the fair with the usual mix of plant, craft and food retailers, all of which reported brisk business with enthusiastic visitors. We had a few old country fair favourites such as horse shoe throwing, field skittles and splat the rat, and many participants walked away with a prize.
Around 63 classic, vintage and vehicles of special interest attended the fair enthralling the visitors with their presentation and on the day, a 1955 Black Austin A50 Cambridge Saloon owned by Mr & Mrs Maruda was deemed to be best in show.
It was a brilliant day, and the Rotary Club of Lutterworth would like to thank all of those people that came out to support us, the stall holders for offering such a great retailer experience, the vehicle owners for a super show, the volunteers without which this would not
have been possible and Mrs Craven who’s garden looked spectacular.
We look forward to seeing you all again next year, please save the day, it will be 26 th May
2024.
Rugby Disabled Sports Competition
The Lutterworth Disabled Sports Team attended the Games at the Diamond Jubilee Sports Centre, Rugby. The team had an enjoyable time at the Rugby Disabled Sports Competition, 30th April.
On able and successful day coming both 1st and 2nd in the Table Tennis and Boccia competitions.
In addition to the main events there were many “Have a Go” competitions, so everyone had ample opportunity to enjoy the day.
The Lutterworth Rotary Club recruited and organised the team of 10 competitors under the guidance of John and Carol Roberson. They provided bus transport with Martin Iliffe as the driver and Sue Sharp providing extra help on the day.
Lutterworth Rotary Club were also responsible for organising the Boccia Competition. Using 3 courts and with the help of trained coaches Mark Beeby and Stephen Cooper they successfully completed 30 matches in just over two hours!

The Lutterworth Halloween Fun Run.
Sunday 30th October 2022
Lutterworth Roundtable and the Rotary Club of Lutterworth joined forces to present Lutterworth’s very first Halloween Fun Run on the 30th October 2022.
 The event was held at Lutterworth College where we had fairground rides for the children, stalls selling a variety of different merchandise, food venders and a bar serving tea and coffee as well as an alcoholic beverage or two.
The day threatened rain, but thankfully the worst of the weather arrived before the crowds congregated and, in the end, we were treated to a warm dry event.
Everyone Active from Lutterworrth Leisure Centre did a fabulous warm up to get the crowd ready. We had approximately 220 participants, some running, some walking but everyone enjoying themselves and having dressed up in their spooky costumes provided Lutterworth with a wonderful sight for Halloween.
The Town Cryer played an important part in the day by awarding prizes to the spookiest costumes and welcoming our participants home again, presenting them all with a medal to remember the day.
We would like to thank all our stall holders, the fairground ride operators, our volunteers and those people that came and took part and made it a great day. We would especially like to thank our sponsors, Hills Alarm Services, Max Electrical and Lutterworth College without whom we would not have been able to proceed with the event.

Barbecue to Welcome Ukrainian Guests - Sunday 26th June
It was a pleasure and honour to meet local hosts and their Ukrainian guests at a Barbecue designed to unite and welcome them to Leicestershire.
Over 60 attended to include Ukrainians and their hosts at Catthorpe, by kind permission of Leo Austin, at his extensive and lovely gardens. The event was jointly organised by Lutterworth Rotary, who provided the food and equipment, and Sean Buckland the local Ukrainian Co-Ordinator with his wife Marion. The Mayor Bill Zilberts addressed the visitors, who’s words were translated to Ukrainian by one of the guests. Many of the hosts and guests brought an array of salads, nibbles and deserts. The children (and adults), enjoyed a variety of games on the lawns.
 Our guests had come from many parts of Ukraine including Lviv, Kyiv, Odessa, Kharkiv and Mariupol. In spite their tragic circumstances it was a fun day and Rotary hope to offer our continued support.

Було приємно та чесно зустрітися з місцевими господарями та їхніми українськими гостями на Барбекю, покликаному об’єднати та привітати їх у Лестерширі.
Понад 60 були присутні, в тому числі українці та їхні господарі в Кетторпі, з люб’язного дозволу Лео Остіна, у його великих і чудових садах. Захід спільно організували Lutterworth Rotary, який надав їжу та обладнання, та Шон Бакленд, місцевий український координатор зі своєю дружиною Меріон. До відвідувачів звернувся міський голова Білл Зільбертс, слова якого один із гостей переклав українською. Багато господарів і гостей привезли різноманітні салати, закуски та десерти.
Діти (і дорослі) насолоджувалися різними іграми на галявинах. Наші гості приїхали з багатьох куточків України, зокрема зі Львова, Києва, Одеси, Харкова та Маріуполя. Незважаючи на їхні трагічні обставини, це був веселий день, і Ротарі сподівається запропонувати нашу постійну підтримку.

Rotary Makes a donation to Smile Train
On Monday 4th April 2022 the Lutterworth Rotary Club kindly donated £1,000.00 to Smile Train UK, the international children’s cleft charity.
A cheque was presented to Peter James who received it on behalf of Smile Train UK after giving a presentation on the work undertaken by Smile Train across the world. Peter talked about his experiences when visiting hospitals in Laos, the Philippines and Brazil. Peter thanked the Rotary Club for their kind donation. It would enable several children to lead a normal healthy life following a life changing operation funded by this kind donation.
 Cleft lip and palate is the most common facial difference in the UK, with a baby being born with a cleft every three minutes. Without cleft surgery, more than 90% of these children will die by the age of 20 if they do not receive treatment*.
To tackle this worldwide issue, Smile Train uses a sustainable ‘Teach a Man to Fish’, model, which empowers local healthcare professionals with the knowledge, skills and training that is needed to treat babies and children with cleft in their local communities. To date, Smile Train has supported over 1.5 million cleft surgeries worldwide.
Peter told the Club that Ian Vallance, Director of Smile Train UK said: “Thousands of children are born with clefts, with many experiencing problems with eating, speaking, hearing and breathing – they can also be ostracised from their communities for being ‘different’.
“All monies raised will make an enormous difference to children globally. We are absolutely delighted with the outcome and would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated money in support.”
Peter James commented: “I have supported Smile Train for many years and have been lucky enough to witness their incredible work first-hand in partner hospitals across the world – most recently Brazil at the end of 2019. “The money raised by the Lutterworth Rotary club will mean that children who live thousands of miles away can receive free cleft surgery and comprehensive cleft care – giving them forever smiles. Although it is in many ways a drop in the ocean, I know it will mean the world to each one of those children and their families”

Lutterworth Rotary Club plants Oak Tree in Rainbow Gardens Lutterworth
 Lutterworth Rotary Club was pleased to supply and plant an Oak Tree at The Rainbow Gardens on Saturday 9 October.
The tree is the first of many British trees and shrubs to be planted on the site.
The project is to regenerate land alongside the Lutterworth College car park, which was formally the Rainbows Nursery. The project will be used for educational purposes, creating an ecological nature garden. Both the Sherrier School and Lutterworth College students are engaged in the project as part of the school curriculum, for their grounding in the Environment and climate change.
The children selected an Oak Tree as symbolic in our Country’s culture and will mark the Queens Platinum Jubilee Year in 2022.
Laura Kendrick (Lutterworth College School Business School and Mark Janssens (Sherrier School Governor) are spearheading the project which will provide a natural habitat and haven to wildlife in the centre of Lutterworth.

100th Anniversay of the Lutterworth Town's War Memorial.
Rotary Serving the local community.
Lutterworth Rotary Club was more than happy to assist the Town Council in the preparations for the 100th anniversary of the erection of the War Memorial. To that end a group of six Rotarians and a member’s son met early Sunday morning 13th June to prepare and paint the eight bollards that stand in the vicinity of the Memorial.

Lutterworth Rotary Club supports The Malawi Bwengu Project
What a wonderful Christmas present for the pupils and staff. The Bwengu Projects is a small educational charity based in Rugby that has been working since 2005 to help improve access to and the quality of education in the mountainous northern district of Malawi in East Africa. Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world and schools in the rural north are generally very dilapidated with poor buildings & facilities and with classes often over 100. The charity is run by Tony & Sue Melia with their daughter Sam & her husband Rob. They have set up a very effective project based system that Lutterworth Rotary Club has supported for the last two years. We have, so far, financed the construction of class-room desks and have contributed funds to the feeding pro-gramme for orphans, of which there are 1 million in Mala-wi, mainly due to the ravages of HIV/Aids. Currently we are financing the building of a four cubicle toilet block for girls at the Luzi Secondary School. ...the ‘Luzi Loos’ project. What has been particularly impressive is that having committed the funds in mid September, the project is now virtually complete and we have been able to see progress at every stage. Bwengu Projects Malawi is very much a model for the sort of overseas project based development that the club is keen to support.
Little Faces School Receive Gifts from Lutterworth Rotary
We have recently received news from one of our members, Sally Searle, that the sixty shoe boxes filled with gifts for children have been received at the Little Faces School in Mombasa Kenya, together with teddies created by Elaine Turner's group of knitters plus 12 boxes for adults, which are not shown .
